Welcome!

This is the place where I'll be posting bits and pieces from here and there (the creative scraps and incomplete works), hopefully documenting my creative journey of self improvement!

Pain (Digital Painting)

Had a hankering to do some drawing over the weekend although I had been dealing with eye strain and headaches over the last few days. The reference photo that this was based on can be found here by photographer Michael Tarasov. Check out his gallery.

Warrior (Digital Painting)

This piece was a commission that I began back around the middle of 2015, however due to my other workloads and commitments, I only got around to finishing it off around the start of 2016. The brief was to paint my client as a Spartan warrior. The planned output was for a canvas print with the dimensions of 600mm x 1000mm.

After sitting down and discussing the initial idea with the client, I was able to collect some reference images and go away to do additional research into Spartan warriors and sketch up a few concepts. Once a particular concept was settled upon, I was able to dive right into my process which was to flesh out the initial sketch and create a black and white version before eventually moving onto colouring and finalising.

Although the process had taken longer than I would have liked, it was an enjoyable experience with some great learning along the way in terms of improvements to my process. And of course, it's all worth while when the client is happy with the results!

On Her Mind (Digital Painting)

Did this back in November of last year but for some reason didn't get around to uploading it on my blog. This was a little something I did to break in my new Wacom Cintiq 27QHD. Loads of fun. Great colour display too.
Reference I used as a base can be found here.

Yoda (Digital Painting)

With the hype surrounding the release of the teaser for the next Star Wars movie, I couldn't help myself doing a little fan homage to one of my favourite characters from the franchise. Bring on the Force Awakens!

Kitten (Digital Painting)

This was created as part of an art trade with a friend. They requested I draw a kitten. I scoured the internet for photo-references of kittens (which wasn't hard). I ended up drawing a Tabby as I currently live with one of the little rascals, so I couldn't help myself (I like to think this is what he looked like when he was a kitten).

Speed Painting #08 - After the Tears

Here's a quick one from early April. I wanted to draw something with a bit of emotion. I should explore more expressions in my drawings.

Indiana (Digital Painting)

So after a busy few weeks I finally had some time to sit down and do a little something. I'm a big fan of adventure stories, and of course Indiana Jones! Had to do a Harrison Ford/Indiana Jones painting at some stage. A fun break back into the process after not having any time to do anything.
